Resolution of What Problems in Geophysical Data Processing and Interpretation and Geological Modeling Is Most Relevant Presently?

To collect accurate and reliable data and to improve efficiency in oil and gas exploration it is necessary not only to develop processing and interpretation methods, but also necessary to improve field surveillance methods, which have not changed significantly for the last 20 - 30 years. For this reason we think it is necessary to address the following issues:

– abandoning field grouping of sources and receivers, which will allow to significantly improve the quality of seismic studies, their reliability, and resolution;

Detailed study of the upper part of a section, data cannot be obtained only based on the materials of the field survey.  The problem is aggravated in areas with an insufficient amount of deep drilling data. Direct study of the velocity model of the upper part of a section by microseismic logging in deep wells is a good solution but it requires improvement of surveillance methods and processing of data. The possibly of studying the upper part of a section and wellhead observations should be duplicated by inverted microseismic logging when a weak source is located near a well; and

– development of a sinchronic inversion method to employ S-wave property information in geological and geophysical data interpretation to build geological 3D models of the discovered hydrocarbon deposits.
